A balked landing refers to a landing that is aborted out of necessity. It is the term used for an unexpectedly discontinued landing maneuver that occurs below the minimum decision height or altitude (OCA/H). This maneuver may need to be initiated at a very low altitude near the runway, and in some cases, even after touchdown, once the wheels have already made contact with the ground.
Although it is rarely encountered, it is considered a high-risk maneuver.
